Fifth-Eighth Amendment

Witness-to see, hear, or know by personal presence and perception: to witness an accident.

Indict-to charge with an offense or crime; accuse of wrongdoing; castigate; criticize: He tends to indict everyone of plotting against him.

Testify-to bear witness; give or afford evidence.

Grand Jury-a jury, at common law, of 12 to 23 persons, designated to inquire into alleged violations of the law in order to ascertain whether the evidence is sufficient to warrant trial.

Due Process-the regular administration of the law, according to which no citizen may be denied his or her legal rights and all laws must conform to fundamental, accepted legal principles, as the right of the accused to confront his or her accusers.

Capital Punishment-punishment by death for a crime; death penalty.

Excessive-going beyond the usual, necessary, or proper limit or degree; characterized by excess: excessive charges; excessive criticism.

Bail-property or money given as surety that a person released from custody will return at an appointed time.

Peer-a person of the same legal status: a jury of one's peers.

Do you believe that people accused of crimes deserve all of these rights or just some of them? Why or why not?

After looking over all of these rights, I don't think that all of these rights should be used. The one that I think shouldn't be used at all would be Capital Punishment. I think using the death penalty is a little too much for a punishment. I would rather have the person go to jail for a lifetime and die there then be killed. Other than that I think most of them are reasonable as rights.

Fourth Amendment

The Fourth Amendment states that if you want to convict someone of doing a crime, you must have evidence. It also says that you must have a search warrant to invade someone's property. I think they would use this search warrant if they were doing a case on someone who murdered someone or if someone committed suicide. I think this would be a good reason because then you could find maybe how someone was murdered and if someone tried to commit suicide you could find out why they did it and how they did it.

Third Amendment

The Third Amendment guarantees security of the home. Meaning that soldiers may not come and stay at your home unless they have permission to do so. I think that it is unfair to open up your house for s soldier. I think that if we wanted a solider to stay with us we would ask them to stay with us. I would feel uncomfortable having a soldier stay with me and my family in our house. I also think its a good idea to have a soldier stay at your home because you would have some protection.

Second Amendment

The Second Amendment states that we have the right to keep or bear arms. Which means that anyone is allowed to own guns or weapons. I think this is a good idea because there are a lot of bad people in our world and we might need it at some point to protect ourselves. Or some people go hunting and might want to have a gun to go hunting with. I also think this is a bad idea because I think some people will abuse the right to own guns and other weapons and will use them for the wrong reasons. In my opinion I think that we should be able to keep weapons or guns in our home. In my house we do have guns but we use them to hunt with.

B.

I think the First Amendment is important to everyday life because its says if we disagree with something than we can say whatever is on our mind without disturbing other people. I also think the First Amendment is important because we have the right to choose which religion we would like to worship. In the First Amendment it says that we have the freedom of speech, petition, press, religion and assembly.
